Read Family Corner

"Fantastic childcare setting with a real homely feel about it. My child settled in almost straight away and due to the fact it is quite small the children get loads of attention whilst they are there. Everything from meal time to play time to nap time and story time all makes it feel like home. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy their job and the whole place has a really relaxed and welcoming feel."

Our Team

Our well qualified, committed and experienced team work hard to create a caring and learning environment for children to learn and develop in their early years. We know that every child develops differently and at different times. Every child has a key person who understands their individual needs and interests. This helps us to ensure that every child feels involved, stimulated and happy in our care.

We follow rigorous staff recruitment, selection and supervision procedures to ensure that anyone joining our team undertakes relevant security checks including Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure, references and qualification checks. Parents are reassured knowing that child protection and safeguarding underpins every aspect of our practice and will continue to remain a priority for us.

Your 'key person'

Every child who joins the nursery receives support from an experienced member of the team. They are responsible for your child’s individual needs and known as the ‘key person’. The key person is your main point of contact however all nursery staff are happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you. They will also keep records of your child’s progress and achievement, which are always available for you to see and contribute towards.

Your child’s key person will make time to find out from you about your child’s interests, likes, dislikes and special requirements. Please share any important or useful information when you register your child and throughout their time with us. This helps us to give your child the most appropriate care and learning to suit their developmental, emotional and physical needs. You can access and contribute your views to your child's progress and achievements in their records.

How quickly can my child start?

We have childcare places available so we can discuss time which best suits you and your child's requirements. We are keen that every child feels settled, happy and secure in our childcare. We want to make the big step from home into childcare a positive experience for everyone involved. Once your child is offered a place, you and your child start a ‘settling in’ process that is based on your child’s needs.

We help your child settle comfortably by:

  • Recognising that some children take longer to settle than others.
  • Encouraging your child to develop a special relationship with their key person so they feel secure in our care.
  • Introducing your child to our daily routine and the environment at different times of the day so they feel reassured and familiar with different sessions.
  • Making you feel welcome to stay with your child at the beginning over a period of time and different times of the day. Over time you can gradually spend longer periods apart until your child is ready to start their daily session without you.
  • Talking with you regularly about the best way to settle your child and listening to your queries or concerns. We want you to feel confident and relaxed when you leave your child in our care.
  • Your child only officially starts with us when they complete their first short session happily without you.

We have moved from Berkshire to Selston, We both work full time, so we needed a school with wrap-around care for our 4yr old son. This one met our needs the most. It is a safe environment being on the school site. The staff are fantastic and James is very happy and well looked after. Without this service 7.30am-6.00pm we would not be able to work. Thank you for all you do. (09/03/18)

I would recommend this nursery to anyone looking for high-quality care with flexible hours for working parents. Our child started in Oct 2017 for 15 hours, he has SEN and the amount of support we have received, not only for our child but as his parents, has been second to none. He now has his full 30 hours at Selston Childcare and we couldn’t be happier with the level of care he receives. (20/09/18)

Really pleased with the service we received from these ladies. Professional, informative, caring, and most of all welcoming. My son joined here in April 2018 after we moved house, after leaving his previous nursery he settled in his new environment straight away. We were both made to feel welcome and the ladies here were so informative. They kept me up to date with activities (I'm terrible for remembering what is happening on what days) so this helped me lots. Also keeping me informed of what he'd eaten during the day. The children were always undertaking new activities, learning something new, including learning to ride a bike. There's always a happy environment and always lots for the children to do. The connection between another nursery and Selston Childcare was fantastic, communication was fab between the two nurseries and the transition from one to another during the day was easy and had no effect on my son at all. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Selston Childcare to anyone. (03/05/18)
