Commons seeks views on Childcare Bill
Early years practitioners are invited to submit their views on the Childcare Bill, the House of Commons has confirmed.
The Bill, which was initially presented in the House of Lords and had its second reading debate on Tuesday (25 November), has now been committed to a Public Bill Committee.
The committee is expected to hold its first meeting on 8 December and report the Bill to the House of Commons by 15 December.
Those with ‘relevant expertise and experience or a special interest in the Childcare Bill’ are invited to submit their views in writing by 5.00pm 15 December.
The main proposals set out by the Bill are: an ‘extended entitlement’ to an additional 15 hours of free childcare for 38 weeks of the year for a ‘qualifying child of a working parent’, and a duty on local authorities to publish information about childcare and related matters.
