Ofsted’s latest post-inspection survey results show that 94% of early years settings were satisfied with the way their inspection was carried out.

In addition, 98% of early years settings surveyed following inspection stated that the lead inspector’s planning phone call helped them understand what to expect during the inspection, while 97% felt that the inspection report they received was clear.

The survey results are based on 731 providers that were inspected or visited between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025, and where a survey had been received by 7 July 2025.

A total of 10,984 early years settings were inspected during this period, meaning that the overall post-inspection survey response rate was 7%.

Neil Leitch, CEO of the Early Years Alliance, commented: “Given that inspections have historically been a source of significant stress for early years providers, it is incredibly welcome to see such a positive response to Ofsted’s latest post-inspection survey.

“Alongside the increased focus on collaboration and educator wellbeing in the new inspection framework, it does seem that the overall approach to inspections is shifting in the right direction. We look forward to working with Ofsted to make sure these positive experiences become the norm.”
