Welcome to Longstanton Pre-School

Longstanton Pre-School is an exciting childcare service located in Longstanton, Cambridge.

We are situated within the grounds of Hatton Park Primary school, and provide breakfast and after school club care to children ranging from 3 years old, right the way through the school years to the end of year 6.

Having our room within the school allows us to nurture a working relationship with the Head, and the teaching staff to ensure smooth transitions to reception class.

Our Team

Our well qualified, committed and experienced team works hard to create a caring and learning environment in the nursery.

We know every child develops differently. Every child has a key person who understands their needs and interests. This helps us ensure every child feels involved, stimulated and happy in our care.

We follow rigorous staff recruitment and supervision procedures and ensure anyone joining our team undertakes relevant security checks including Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure, references and qualification checks.

Parents are reassured knowing that child protection and safeguarding underpins every aspect of our practice.

Your child's 'key person'

Every child who joins our Pre-School receives support from an experienced member of the team.

They are responsible for your child's needs and known as the ‘key person’. The key person is your main point of contact however all nursery staff are happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you. They will also keep records of your child’s progress and achievement, which are always available for you to see and contribute towards.

Your child’s key person will make time to find out from you about your child’s likes, dislikes and special requirements. Please share any important information when you register your child and throughout their time with us. This helps us to give your child the most appropriate care for them. You can access and contribute your views to your child's progress in their records.

Girl building blocksDo you offer funded entitlement for 3-year-olds?

Children are eligible for the funding in the term following their third birthday. The funding is available for 15 hours per week.  We also offer the 15 hours of extended funding. You may know of this as '30 Hour Funding'. To check if you are eligible for the additional 15 hours funding, please visit the HMRC website below;

Do you offer funded entitlement for 2-year-olds?

If your child is two years old, your child may be eligible to attend the two-year-old funded childcare programme. The funding is available for 15 hours per week. Please contact your local children's centre or Local Authority.

What sessions do you offer?

Monday to Friday, term time only:

How easy will it be for my child to settle in?

We welcome children to visit with their parents, prior to their start date in order that they can feel comfortable with their new surroundings. The number of these visits can vary, depending on the child's needs. Each child is allocated a key person, with whom a bond can be formed to allow a smoother settling-in process.

How will I know how well my child is doing?

Every child has their own Learning Journey (their 'special book') in which their progress within the Early Years Foundation Stage is charted. Parents and carers are welcome to look through their child's learning journey and ask any questions related to it at any time. In addition to this, your child's key person will invite you in to share your child's latest summative assessment. This will also serve as an opportunity to work together in planning any possible lines of development, (PLODs)

How can I support my child's learning at home?

Every day, the staff contributes to the planning which parents can access at any time. We regularly upload pictures onto our family platform, Famly. This provides an ideal opportunity to enable parents to engage with their children about their day. In addition to this, we also have a well-stocked 'Home Learning' File which offers parents a wide variety of advice and activities they can do with their child.

How can I help with the Pre-School?

Longstanton Pre-School is part of the Early Years Alliance which is a registered charity. This means that we rely heavily on fundraising. Parents are very welcome and encouraged to assist us in any fundraising events. We also welcome parents into the setting to read, play, or carry out a craft activity. If you have an exciting job, such as paramedic or dentist, please feel free to come in and share your experiences and knowledge with us. Some parents come and share stories or food from special holidays they celebrate, such as St. Martin's Day.

What facilities are available for children who are not toilet trained?

We have a purpose-built changing room in which children have their nappy changed.

Do you provide hot meals?

No, unfortunately, we are unable to provide hot or cooked meals. Children will bring a packed lunch and will enjoy sociable lunchtime with all of the children and staff members. As we at Longstanton promote healthy eating, we do ask parents that their child is not provided with fizzy drinks, sweets, or chocolate with their lunch. We are also a nut-free setting and ask that parents respect this and check that the food they send into pre-school does not contain any nuts.

Are you able to accommodate children with different dietary requirements?

Yes, staff work very hard to ensure all dietary requirements are recorded and adhered to appropriately. We ensure any children with dietary requirements, allergy, religious or otherwise, are displayed, discreetly for staff reference only. We also ensure foods supplied to children are recorded within our allergen information folder.

What qualifications do your staff have?

4 staff members are qualified to at least level 3. One staff member is currently working towards a level 2 qualification within an apprenticeship. All members of the team are first aid trained and hold a basic food hygiene qualification. ECAT training has been undertaken and cascaded throughout the setting.

How many staff will be looking after my child?

We have five team members at the pre-school, and another two team members who work as flexible workers.

How quickly can my child start?

Starting dates are subject to session availability - please contact us to find out more.
