Summer Term & Home Learning

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the associated lockdown measurements, the setting was closed for the first half of the summer term. We have been working hard to support our families with ideas for activities at home. We have sent everyone a little pack of sunflower seeds with a challenge to measure their plant and take photos so we can see who can grow the tallest sunflower, as well as sharing tips for preparing our preschoolers to start reception such as writing skills and phonics. Here are a few photos of our families have shared of their home learning activities.

Forest School

We have a qualified Forest School practitioner that takes the children out weekly to take part in Forest School.

The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire children through positive outdoor experiences.

By taking part in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities, each child has an opportunity to develop motivation, social and emotional skills. They will learn to take risks by using a variety of tools and cooking on a small fire, such as roasting marshmallows. Children are focused on learning about the natural environment including plants, animals and insects.

Forest School enables children to explore the natural environment and they can learn at their own pace to develop confidence over time.

Forest School is a holistic approach to learning through the outdoor environment and confidence and self-esteem are promoted through exploration. It gives children the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others.

About us

Hanbury's Farm Pre-school offers a stimulating approach to early years development and learning for young children. Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, children are supported by qualified, caring staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests. The children enjoy learning through play experiences in bright indoor and outdoor play areas with exciting outings planned regularly.

We are managed by the Alliance, which has over 50 years experience delivering childcare and practical support to early years practitioners.

Our nursery plans its activities in accordance with the EYFS with a strong focus on exploratory, imaginative play and healthy eating. We recognise the huge benefits that free flow play has on the positive development of young children. Every child in our care is supported by a key person who understands their needs and offers special care and support to them.

Rigorous health & safety and safeguarding policies and procedures are in place to ensure that every child is protected and feels safe and happy with us.

We are based within the grounds of a primary school and are very fortunate to have 2 large, open and airy rooms, both having access to their own individual outdoor spaces. Each room is divided up into learning zones with each zone focussing on the children's interests and learning needs. There are always areas for messy play, mark making, small world and a cosy place to rest and enjoy some quiet time. You will also find a home corner which is often transformed into role play such as a cafe, a shop or the doctors surgery.

We pride ourselves on having a wide range of resources accessible to the children at all times, ensuring that there is something for everyone both inside and out, as well as store cupboards and a shed brimming with even more to rotate as and when the children need.

Our Team

Woman and babyOur well qualified, committed and experienced team works hard to create a caring and learning environment in the nursery.

We know every child develops differently and at different times. Every child has a key person who understands their individual needs and interests. This helps us ensure every child feels involved, stimulated and happy in our care.

We follow rigorous staff recruitment and supervision procedures to ensure anyone joining our team undertake relevant security checks including Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure, references and qualification checks. Parents are reassured knowing child protection and safeguarding underpins every aspect of our practice.

Your child's 'key person'

Every child who joins the nursery receives support from an experienced member of the team. They are responsible for your child’s needs and known as the ‘key person’. The key person is your main point of contact however all nursery staff are happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress or discuss any concerns with you. They will also keep records of your child’s progress, which are always available for you to see and contribute towards.

Your child’s key person will make time to find out from you about your child’s interests, likes, dislikes and special requirements. Please share any important or useful information when you register your child and throughout their time with us. This helps us to give your child the most appropriate care and learning to suit their developmental, emotional and physical needs. You can access and contribute your views to your child's progress and achievements in their records.
