Previous Events

World Book Day

On 7th March the nursery joined in and celebrated World Book Day! The children came in dressed as their favourite story character or in their Pjama's ready for 'Bed Time Stories'. Many of our children also took part in an Usborne Books sponsored read and raised money for the nursery to purchase new books. This also helped develop their imagination and literacy skills ready for going to school in September. Ailsa, one of our parents who organised the event, also secured a donation from 2 local businesses, 'Shine at 9' and 'Bay Plumbing & Heating' which contributed to our new selection of books. Thank You for everyone who made a contribution and took part! Due to raising so much money, Usborne books gave us an additional £75.00 to spend on our order. The children are really enjoying reading the new stories at nursery and they have fully captured the children's imagination and desire to learn.

Christmas Craft Fair

On Saturday 15th December we held a Christmas Craft Fair at the nursery where we were joined by lots of our families and hosted a variety of stalls for them to get involved in, including Pin the Nose on Rudolf, Reindeer Hats, Christmas Biscuit decorating, Reindeer food bar, Tombola, Lucky Dip, Usborne books and a Parent Forum Stall. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thank You to everyone that got involved!

Quiz Night

Saturday 24th November

This was a funfilled night for our parents to get together and test their knowledge using different quiz rounds. The event was kindly hosted by Bude Football Club with antipasti boards and nibbles. Teams were extended to friends and family of lots of our parents which made it a relaxed and enjoyable evening for all. Well done to our Parent Forum Team who were the winners! We had lots of really positive feedback about this event and will be hosting another on in the New Year.

Halloween Party

We had our annual halloween party on Friday 2nd November and had a great turn out of children and families. All the children looks super spooky in their costumes and were very excited. Throughout the week leading up to the party the children helped in making all the delicious party food which took lots of different shapes and sizes! During the party the children enjoyed playing 'pass the parcel', working on their dancing skills and eating all their yummy food. It was lovely to see all our parents mingle and get to know each other.

Summer Garden Party & Pre-School Graduation

We sadly said Goodbye to many of our Pre-School Children and wished them a fond farewell through our Graduation Ceremony. The children each receieved a certificate scroll congratulating them for their first few years of learning. They sang some of their favourite songs to their parents and we shared some memories of the past year. This was followed by our summer garden party full of picnics, activities and stalls. It was a lovely event for all our families to get together in the nursery environement.

BBQ & Funday

On the Tuesday of half term we held a BBQ and active funday for our children and families in the sunshine. The children had fun and developed their physical skills through participating in a soft play obstacle course, water races, egg and spoon races, sack races and many more. They also went on a treasure hunt around the garden looking for some of their favourite story characters. There were also bubbles, tunnels and a variety of balls for our babies to engage with followed by a BBQ enjoyed by all. Thank You for all of our families who were able to join us on the day.

Christmas Carols at Eventide Residential Home

We were excited to take some of our children out into the local community at Eventide Residential home on Thursday 21st December to sing some Christmas carols. The children and families who joined us were fantastic and the residents joined us in singing some songs. We shared mince pies and a drink before heading back to nursery. The children learnt about road safety along the way and we talked about directions. We would like to continue building our relationship with the residents of Eventide and visit them on a regular basis throughout the year.

Christmas Fayre

Thank You to all our parents and families who supported us at our Christmas Fete this year. We had an amazing time and managed to raise £800 which will go towards improving our garden and resources!

Parent Forum Group

At the nursery, we really value the input of parents and would like to hear their voice more regularly. We have successfully held numerous parent forum meetings in which we discussed feedback from a recent parent questionnairre. Some of the things parents expressed included having more information about what their children were learning at the nursery more regularly. We are currently working on actions in order to improve this including a Facebook page which has now been created. Please visit https://www.facebook.com/Early-Birds-Nursery-1265775796878437/ to see more about what happens at the nursery each week. We also discussed creating more events for parents to get together and make the nursery more of a community so watch this space for some upcomming events and opportunities to get together!

Most recently, the Parent Forum have taken a really active approach in the life of the nursery. They have supported us in our fundraising activities and gone over and above to make these events really enjoyable and accessible for both our children and families. The feedback that we get from these meetings is really valuable in making positive change at the nursery.

If your child currently attends Early Birds and you would like to be apart of our Parent Forum, please let Alex know.

Next Meeting Date: Monday 4th March 5-630pm

About us

Early Birds offers a stimulating approach to early years development, within a safe, friendly and fun environment. Children are supported to learn by our well qualified staff team who use the children's interests to extend and layer their knowledge. The children enjoy learning through play in natural 'home from home' environment with a good balance between resources designed for a purpose and open ended resources which encourage exploration and discovery.

Our nursery plans its activities in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stafe and emphasises on exploratory and imaginative play. We recognise and understand the huge benefits that free flow play has on the positive development of very young children therefore children freely move between the indoor & outdoor space. We prepare well and go outside in all weather conditions and strongly believe in the phrase...

'Its not bad weather, its just bad clothing'

Children learn how the natural environment changes with the seasons and how to dress appropriately during colder and warmer climates. The children particularly enjoy standing underneath our canopy and listening to the rain as it pitter patters on the rooftop.

Every child in our care is supported by a key person who understands each child's individual needs and offers spec and support to them. The Key person regularly observes the children and assesses their development in accordance with the Early Learning Goals and the Characteristics of effective learning. From these observations, the key person will plan activities designed to challenge the children further and help layer their understanding. We share this information with yourselves as parents on a regular basis in order for you to get involved and continue thier learning at home. We also like to hear all about what the children have achieved during their time at home, knowing that you as parents are the most important resource for children.

At Early Birds we encourage the children to develop independance and a 'Have a go' attitude to learning. The environment has been carefully designed to allow children to make their own choices, try new things and have their own ideas. The staff are always there to support children and their interactions will stimulate children to be critical thinkers and solve problems for themselves

Rigorous health & safety and safeguarding policies and procedures are in place to ensure that every child is protected and feels safe and happy with us.

The children have hours of outdoor fun using the water system which allows the children to pump water from the water butt into the guttering and catch it at the end.

We have been looking at how our environment supports children communication skills and social interactions. This is particularly important for the 2 year olds in the setting. We have created lots of small spaces and dens in the setting which allows children to talk with each other in small groups. These spaces are inviting, cosy and give the children the confidence they need to try out their developing language skills. Since putting these into the environment the children have developed stronger relationships with each other and their play is more imaginative.

Things we have been doing throughout the Autumn Term 2018

The Children have been developing their physical, imaginative & listening and attention skills through our Yogabugs story 'The Naughty Little Monkey'

The children have been doing lots of cooking activities throughout the term including making bread, soup, biscuits, healthy muffins, oaty bars and lots more. This is not only a great way for the children to learn about cause & effect but it also helps develop the childrens mathmatic skills, personal, social & emotional skills and it is a fantastic way for them to develop their comminication & language, widening their breadth of vocabulary.

We were very kindly donated a homemade car by a family within the local community. The children have loved using this in the garden continulously changing the type of vehicle and growing their imagination

The children have been very exctied in using our range of healthy drinks offered at the nursery. They are able to independently access water, fruit water or milk during their time at nursery. This gives them a sense or responsibility in carrying out small tasks and also helps develop their gross motor skills through using their coordination in pouring.

Our babies have been really enjoying the sensory exploration activities at Christmas

Our Team

The Early Birds Team

Our well qualified, committed and experienced team work hard to create a caring and learning environment in the nursery. We know that every child develops differently and at different times. Every child has a key person who understands how their individual needs and interests. This helps us to ensure that every child feels involved, stimulated and happy in our care.

We follow rigorous staff recruitment, selection and supervision procedures to ensure that anyone joining our team undertake relevant security checks including Disclosure and Barring Service, references and qualification checks. Parents are reassured knowing that child protection and safeguarding underpins every aspect of our practice and will continue to remain a priority for us.

Your 'key person'

Every child who joins the nursery receives support from an experienced member of the team. They are responsible for your child’s individual needs and known as the ‘key person’. The key person is your main point of contact however all nursery staff are happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you. They will also keep records of your child’s progress and achievement, which are always available for you to see and contribute towards.

Your child’s key person will make time to find out from you about your child’s interests, likes, dislikes and special requirements. Please share any important or useful information when you register your child and throughout their time with us. This helps us to give your child the most appropriate care and learning to suit their developmental, emotional and physical needs. You can access and contribute your views to your child's progress and achievements in their records.
