This Spring at Early Birds nursery

We love exploring the changing season, with all our senses, indoors and out.

We play outdoors in all weathers. Our garden is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the world, where children can build relationships and feel safe and secure as they learn and develop together.

It’s more important than ever to get outdoors, experience space, freedom and fresh air.

The children’s learning is driven by their wonderful  curiosity and exploring the exciting new garden environment.

Fundraising Events

Christmas Raffle and Secret Room.

Thank you to all the families who have bought raffle tickets and Secret Room presents.

We really appreciate you contributing to our fundraising this time of year.

We raised a fabulous £262 for the garden development fund.

We are so excited to make plans for buying new toys and resources this year.

Parent Forum Group

We really value the input of parents and love to hear their voice more regularly. We hold regular parent forum meetings, in which we discuss numerous things going on at the nursery such as events, new ideas, things we can improve on and fundraising. We really enjoy working with our parents and hearing their views. We welcome as many of you to get involved in any way you can.

Due to the Covid risk assessment, parents events are not in the nursery this year. We will be seeking parent views and contributions though diffirent forums this year. We are looking into new projects, involving using 'Microsoft Forms'. All parent will receive an interactive questionnaire, to gather perspectives and viewpoints. All of which we will use to moreve forward, to continually develop the setting.

Our next Big Project

Early Birds Nursery Garden Transformation.

We continue to develop the outdoor space in 2021. Watch this space for the new and improved beach themed garden.

The benefits of outdoor play in early years settings are well documented. Children view the world with fresh eyes outdoors and the Early Years Foundation Stage recognises outdoor play as an important part of child development, nurturing independence and communication skills while supporting physical and mental health and wellbeing.

About us

Early Birds offers a stimulating approach to early years development, within a safe, friendly and fun environment. Children are supported to learn by our well qualified staff team who use the children's interests to extend and layer their knowledge. The children enjoy learning through play in natural 'home from home' environment with a good balance between resources designed for a purpose and open ended resources which encourage exploration and discovery.

We plan activities in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage, with an emphasises on exploratory and imaginative play. We recognise and understand the huge benefits that free flow play has on the positive development of very young children therefore children freely move between the indoor & outdoor space. We prepare well and go outside in all weather conditions and strongly believe in the phrase...

'It's not bad weather, it's just bad clothing."

Every child in our care is supported by a key person who understands each child's individual needs and offers spec and support to them.

The Key person regularly observes the children and assesses their development in accordance with the Early Learning Goals and the Characteristics of effective learning.

From these observations, the key person will plan activities designed to challenge the children further and help layer their understanding.

We share this information with yourselves as parents daily, via the 'Famly' App, in order for you to get involved and continue thier learning at home.

We also like to hear all about what the children have achieved during their time at home, knowing that you as parents are the most important resource for children.

Our baby room

At Early Birds we encourage the children to develop independance and a 'Have a go' attitude to learning. The environment has been carefully designed to allow children to make their own choices, try new things and have their own ideas. The staff are always there to support children and their interactions will stimulate children to be critical thinkers and solve problems for themselves.

We are very proud of our cosy nurturing baby room at Early Birds Nursery. At Early Birds Nursery, we appreciate and respect the amount of trust it must take in leaving your baby at a nursery. We can ensure you that your child will be in a caring, loving and stimulating environment with staff with a wealth of specific experience, training, knowledge, skills and qualities in working with babies. We can never replace you as their parent but individual staff strive to ensure you can confidently leave your child knowing they are receiving the best possible care, giving you peace of mind to focus on the rest of your day.

Our dedicated baby room provides care for up to just six babies aged 6 weeks to 2 years. From the very first day your child will receive consistent and nurturing care, in order for them to have every opportunity to build an appropriate bond and secure attachment. Our focus over the first few days at nursery will be finding out about you your child’s routine, likes and dislikes in order to make sure your child’s care and stimulation is tailored to meet their individual needs.

Routine and structure is important for the baby room and gives your child structure and security. There is a routine at Early Birds that incorporates breakfast, lunch and dinner that are provided by our cooks who will accommodate your baby's individual dietary needs making the transition from soft food/milk to solids easily. Daily snacks offer healthy choices and enable your child to experience different tastes and textures from around the world.

The baby room has a designated sleeping room for babies who need rest at any time of the day. Staff monitor children daily and will provide you with all the information you will need in relation to your child’s sleep pattern for the day, nappy changes and what they have eaten and drunk throughout the day.

Our aim is to ensure that your child is always happy and all their needs are met – at Early Birds the child always comes first.

Our Team

The Early Birds Team

Our well qualified, committed and experienced team work hard to create a caring and learning environment in the nursery. We know that every child develops differently and at different times. Every child has a key person who understands how their individual needs and interests. This helps us to ensure that every child feels involved, stimulated and happy in our care.

We follow rigorous staff recruitment, selection and supervision procedures to ensure that anyone joining our team undertake relevant security checks including Disclosure and Barring Service, references and qualification checks. Parents are reassured knowing that child protection and safeguarding underpins every aspect of our practice and will continue to remain a priority for us.

Your 'key person'

Every child who joins the nursery receives support from an experienced member of the team. They are responsible for your child’s individual needs and known as the ‘key person’. The key person is your main point of contact however all nursery staff are happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you. They will also keep records of your child’s progress and achievement, which are always available for you to see and contribute towards.

Your child’s key person will make time to find out from you about your child’s interests, likes, dislikes and special requirements. Please share any important or useful information when you register your child and throughout their time with us. This helps us to give your child the most appropriate care and learning to suit their developmental, emotional and physical needs. You can access and contribute your views to your child's progress and achievements in their records.

Hannah Corbett – Early Years Assistant - Early Years Level Three Trainee

I have had an interest in working with children from a very young age.
I studied health and social care and travel and tourism at college. After having my two children, I returned to childcare and worked in the local primary school in Wiltshire for nine years, working as a SENCo one to one, a class teaching assistant and a higher-level TA. I was also lead midday supervisor.
When my family and I moved to Cornwall I decided I wanted a new challenge and applied for a job at Early Birds Nursery. I have loved bringing my school knowledge into the nursery and using it with my new gained knowledge of the EYFS.

I have loved helping the older children get ready for their transition to reception. I really enjoy helping the children grow in confidence and helping them build the skills they need ready for transition to big school. I also love messy play and have a real interest in this aspect of learning through this type of play.
I am currently completing my level three Early years Educator course.
Outside of nursery, I enjoy coastal walks with my husband and dog and being creative with either sea glass or cake making.

'We were really worried about putting our 18-month-year-old in the nursery as she is usually not great at leaving us for any amount of time. However, she is so happy to go in at Early Birds always runs in and doesn’t look back.

The staff are really nurturing and accommodating, and she has already formed great relationships with them.

Highly recommended!'

August 2021

'Such an amazing team who helped my 1-year-old settle in very quickly and happily. Any questions or worries I had/have are always met with kindness and advice from both management and team members.
The space itself is lovely and boasts lots of exploring opportunities for the children. I must also add how safe we have felt (with current circumstances) through this setting's exceptional response to guidelines and requirements as well as their updates to keep us all informed. Overall, this setting has been the perfect find for me and little one. I have and will continue to recommend to family and friends' - Parent of Baby room child, February 2021

'Our child has been attending Early birds for 4 months now and seen a hugely positive development in him. His speech, social interaction and learning has been fabulous. So happy and glad we have chosen Early Birds for our son as we love the close interaction with us as parents and his fondness for all the ladies and other children there is wonderful to see' - Parent of two year old Pre-school child, February 2021.

My daughter attends Early Birds Nursery and I couldn’t be more at ease. She always bounces out of the door at the end of her session, armed with artwork! She’s not the most confident being away from us but she’s always put at ease, and feels close to her key workers that she can have cuddles if upset' - Parent of three year old Pre-school child, February 2021.

Staff support babies' early learning well. For instance, babies show their keen curiosity as they look at toys, books and interesting natural materials'

'Staff provide a warm welcome for their children and families. Children are happy, sociable and make friends'

'Babies and children settle well and feel secure in the nursery. They have warm relationships and enjoy being with the staff'
